Twentieth Century Fox and Genting Unveil Plans for New Malaysian Theme Park Jul 26th 2013, 11:37

The world’s first international Twentieth Century Fox Theme Park will open in 2016 at Malaysia’s Resorts World Genting (RWG) thanks to a new licensing partnership between Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products and RWG. RWG is owned and operated by Genting Malaysia an operator of theme parks, casinos, hotels and more for some 45 years.

Characters and settings from popular Twentieth Century Fox (TCF) animations and films such as Ice Age, Rio, Alien and Night at the Museum will be featured in rides and attractions at the park along with a wide array of Fox properties including action, adventure, animation, family and sci-fi genres. The partnership brings together the world’s largest destination resort operator in RWG and one of the world’s largest producers and distributors of entertainment content in the world in TCF.

RWG is investing some $125 million (RM 400 million) in the 25-acre park. More TCF-based attractions will be announced at a later date. The park will also feature a host of TCF characters in a daily “Dream Parade” of animatronics parade based on all characters and titles represented at the theme park

The Genting Theme Park first opened in 1978 as the Genting Amusement and Recreation Park. In the last two years the park has hosted more than 40 million visitors from both domestic and international markets. The operators hope the new theme park, designed for children and adults, will attract even more visitors from Malaysia and abroad. The existing theme park will close on Sept. 1 in order to begin construction of the new park.
