Kate and Will Welcome Prince of Cambridge, Visit Britain Invites the World to Celebrate Jul 22nd 2013, 17:58

Visit Britain is proud to proclaim to travelers all over the world that the Royal family’s newest member, the First Prince of Cambridge, has arrived, weighing in at 8 lbs. 6 oz.!  The baby has yet to be named as of press time.

The news of the birth of the Duke and Duchess’s sonwas announced by an easel proclamation outside Buckingham Palace, in the same way that Prince William’s birth was announced in 1982.  To celebrate, VisitBritain is offering suggestions for the best of Royal-themed sights and family-friendly Britain.

The young family (Duke, Duchess and Baby Cambridge) will be taking up residence at Kensington Palace, where Will and Harry grew up. The royal homes are in the private side of Kensington Palace, but visitors are invited to the side open to the public, where they can see the King’s and Queen’s State Apartments.

Visit Britain is also reminding travelers that they can visit Buckingham Palace, home to the baby’s great grandmother, The Queen, throughout the summer.  A new special exhibition celebrates the Queen’s Coronation 60 years ago, displaying the robes worn, the Diamond Diadem and even the personal invitation sent to four-year-old Prince Charles for the occasion. The exhibit is open July 27 – September 29.

The Duke and Duchess’s country house is Amner Hall in Norfolk, England.  The Royal Family gathers for Christmas just down the road at Sandringham, the Norfolk retreat of The Queen. Open to the public, visitors can tour the house and gardens. Sandringham’s Country Park also includes 600 acres of wander-able space as well as holiday cottages for visitors who want to vacation on the grounds. Sandringham is open March 30 – November 3, except July 27 – August 2.

The attention being attracted by the Royal Family has continued to be a strong draw for British tourism.  Baby Cambridge has already pulled his share of the load in tourism marketing and has already generated an estimated $400 million in souvenir sales of special commemorative items.

Visitors who are planning trips in the future can get in the mood now by shopping at VisitBritain’s online shop for souvenirs of the Royal Birth, Baby Cambridge and Kate and Will as well.
