Lincoln Memorial Chamber to Re-Open Friday after Paint Attack Jul 26th 2013, 11:23
National Park Service officials were hopeful Friday that the chamber containing the Lincoln statue at the Lincoln Memorial could be re-opened after vandals splashed green paint on the base of the statue of the nation’s 16th president and the marble floor around it overnight.
The columned area outside the chamber, known as the portico, was expected to re-open Friday morning, and workers are cleaning the paint that had been splashed onto part of the marble statue. According to multiple press reports, police are reviewing surveillance footage from the area but have not yet released information about the attack or who may be responsible.
