Salewa Rockshow 2013 Final: practically perfect Jul 24th 2013, 07:32
The fifth edition of the Salewa Rockshow 2013 ended perfectly. Young climbers from eight different countries competed in a thrilling head to head in the grand final on 18 July at the Salewa Cube in Bolzano.
A large crowd watched the exciting ascents of the promising climbers and enjoyed the barbecue and live music durint the fun and friendly final day of the competition. The evening was packed with other events and the international audience chatted away and watched from the lawn opposite the Salewa Cube as people got to grips with the Mini-boulder - where climbers attempted to cross through Mini Cooper from door to door using their body strength only, just like when bouldering - and the slackline.
The group of climbers selected from the different national Rockshow circuits displayed their ability on the climbing wall, and surprised everyone at the Salewa Cube with their ambition, skill and team spirit. In the end the two young athletes from South Korea won the title "Climber of the Tour": Jongwon Chon and Solah Kim. The jury was comprised, amongst others, by the Salewa alpineXtream Team Roger Schäli and Rustam Gelmanov and were impressed by the outstanding performance of these two young climbers. Second and third place went to 13-year old Matilda from Italy and 22-year-old Gabriela from the Czech Republic while in the men's event silver went to 31-year-old Jakub from the Czech Republic while bronze went to 15-year-old Johannes from Austria. All these climbers demonstrated extraordinary technique, much to the delight of the entire crowd.
The best climbers not only won the title "Climber of the Tour" but also a week in an extraordinary climbing destination: Jongwon Chon and Solah Kim will now head off to the enjoy the fantastic island of Ko Phi Phi in Thailand.
